Pervasive 2009, the Seventh International Conference on Pervasive Computing, will be held May 11-14, 2009 in Nara, Japan.

This annual conference provides a premier forum for researchers to present their latest results in all areas related to architecture, design, implementation, application and evaluation of pervasive computing as it integrates into our lives.

Pervasive 2009 builds on the success of previous conferences in this series held in Zurich (August 2002), in Linz/Vienna (April 2004), in Munich (May 2005), in Dublin (May 2006), Toronto (May 2007) and Sydney (May 2008). Pervasive 2009 will include a highly selective single-track program for technical papers.

We welcome high quality papers that describe original and unpublished research advancing the state of the art in mobile and pervasive computing, including but not limited to the following topics:

• Technologies and devices for pervasive computing
• Software aspects including middleware and operating systems for pervasive computing
• Tools, infrastructures, architectures and techniques for designing, implementing & deploying pervasive computing systems
• Applications of pervasive computing technologies
• Interfaces and modes of interactions between people and pervasive computing devices, applications or environments
• Evaluations and evaluation methods, for assessing the impact of pervasive computing devices, applications or environments
• Privacy, security, trust & social issues and implications of pervasive computing

We anticipate that contributions should be relevant and grounded within Pervasive Computing and authors should write assuming a broad interdisciplinary Pervasive computing audience.

Note that papers should not have been previously published or be concurrently under submission for publication for any other conference, journal,workshop or other publication with an ISBN, ISSN, or DOI number.

Author guidelines

All papers will be peer-reviewed by members of the Pervasive 2009 program committee and additional expert reviewers drawn from relevant research communities.

Submissions will be evaluated on the basis of originality, significance of the contribution to the field, technical correctness and presentation. If a submitted paper may appear to overlap with the previously published or simultaneously reviewed work, the authors should email the Program Co-Chairs directly to explain how the new work represents a unique and substantial new contribution.

Successful submissions typically break new ground and provide substantial support for results and conclusions. Full Papers should include a thorough survey of related work positioning the contribution, a comprehensive, detailed and comprehensible explanation of a device, system, study, theory or method (sufficient for replicability), and compelling validation of the work. Full papers can be up to 18 pages in LNCS format.

For the first time, Pervasive 2009 will also be accepting shorter format 'Notes' (up to 8 LNCS page papers). Short papers should be succinct but complete contributions. Short papers will be reviewed in the same process with full papers, and will appear in the proceedings and the conference programme.

The different length of Full Papers (18 pages) and Notes (8 pages) allows authors to choose an appropriate submission cateogory based on the amount of contribution or scope of the work. Consider carefully whether a Full Paper or Note submission is more appropriate, as there will be no mechanism for re-considering a submitted Full Paper as a shorter Note.

Paper submissions must be anonymized to facilitate blind review. Authors are encouraged to take care throughout the entire document to minimise oblique and overt references and citations that may reveal the identity of the authors or their institutions. Relevant references to an author's previous research should not be suppressed but instead referenced in a neutral way.
